Saturation Plan
My second strategy in getting you site to appear at the top of key word
searches is what I call the DOMINATION or SATURATION PLAN. It is simply
to
have as many different Satellite files as you can afford in time or space
on your hard drive. These satellite files should take up very little room,
but the numbers can quickly grow, so I suggest giving them names with
numbers in them, or placing them all in a separate sub directory in order
to keep track of them. Their names are not important.
The idea is to saturate the Internet with your sites, so that when the
keyword search results come up, your sites will be the ones available.
Suppose you created 10 different satellite sites for say the 15 major
search services focusing on the key word "tropical fish". When a user
goes to Web Crawler and searches "tropical fish", your satellite site
should appear very near the top. However, your other satellite sites that
you created specifically for other search databases will probably also show
up somewhere near there. Plus, and other satellite pages you've created
using other keywords.
With this technique of creating many many satellite pages, you could
literally dominate an entire keyword, which would make you have a majority
of the sites listed on the results page of a search.
Once you figure out what works and what does not, you can change those that
do not work, and make copies of the ones that do. A lot of this will be
trial and error. You must keep manipulating you files until you get near
the top of a search result. Then, once you do make it near the top, you
can create duplicates, and those will be listed directly under your
original one. Just copy the page to another name, and possibly to another
directory.
Submitting / Registering Pages
With the creation of your home pages and satellite pages complete, the next
step in this process is to register your pages with the search engines.
The good thing is that with many of these search engines, you only need to
submit your home page, and it will automatically find all the other pages
in your directory. Otherwise, you have to register each page separately,
which can take a very long time, but won't cost you a dime.
A great place to register your page with the most popular search companies
all at once is
Add-It!. This free service allows you to fill out one form
and send it to all major search companies.
I highly recommend using this service.
This registration process is still time consuming, but if you are using a
28.8 modem and Add-It's free service, then it will go much quicker.
Now just because you have tailored one page to a specific search engine,
does not mean you only submit it to that search engine. You still want to
register every single page you have created with all search engines.
During registration of your pages, you might be asked to fill in a title,
description, and/or list of keywords. The title that you type in should
be
the same that you have listed in between the
<TITLE></TITLE>
tags in your
document. And the description should be what ever the next few lines of
text are in your document. Finally, type in keywords that you have placed
in your document.
Continued Survey
Once registered, it can take anywhere from 1 day to 1 month for your site
to become available. You should search for your pages using the keywords
you have chosen to see which pages come up in the search results, and their
location. Keep good records of where they appear.
If none of your pages appear, then check to see if they are in the engine's
database yet. To do this search using your URL as the keyword. This will
usually find your site and all sites that have a link to you. If any of
your pages appear, then they are listed in the database and are not coming
up near the top for some reason.
If this is the case, then you must determine why your pages are not getting
scored very high. Reevaluate the search engine's scoring procedures, and
take a good look at your satellite page designs for that site. Sometimes,
it is as easy as sending e-mail to the search engine company to determine
ways in which to improve your site's score. Telephoning the companies is
also a great way to talk to someone and get ideas on increasing scores.
If your site did not appear, then it is simply not in the database yet.
Give it at least a month, and if it is still not in, register again. If
this fails, it is a good idea to contact the search engine company and
determine what you should do to be registered with them.
Other Search Engines and Directories
Other than the main search engines, there are numerous other minor search
engines that specialize in certain fields, such as music or construction.
These sites can be found using key word searches. Many allow you to
register for free. Then there are other directories that are run by
individuals or companies that will keep track of all pages relating to a
particular subject. With most of these sites, you need only find them,
and ask to have your site listed. Most will supply a link to your site
for free.
